Welcome to Celerity Lodge No. 5602

The Celerity Lodge No.5602 was founded on the 29 January 1936 at the instigation of W. Bro W H Jago PPGD (Kent) with the assistance of the founders of the lodge and the sponsorship of Highbury Lodge No. 2192.

The intention was to form a lodge with Civil Service Motoring Association (CSMA) connections, which would cater for the Civil Servants. It was anticipated that the advent of this new lodge would stimulate considerable Masonic interest amongst civil servants. There were already a number of members of the CSMA who were active masons and their support was enlisted for the formation of the new lodge.

The Lodge was consecrated at The Royal Adelaide Gallery by V W Bro Sir Colville Smith CVO PGW the Grand Secretary at 5.00pm on Wednesday 29 January 1936 and all the Consecrating Officers were subsequently elected Honorary Members of the Lodge.

What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. Its members are taught its precepts (moral lessons and self-knowledge) by a series of ritual dramas - a progression of allegorical two-part plays which are learnt by heart and performed within each Lodge - which follow ancient forms, and use stonemasons’ customs and tools as allegorical guides.

Freemasonry instils in its members a moral and ethical approach to life: it seeks to reinforce thoughtfulness for others, kindness in the community, honesty in business, courtesy in society and fairness in all things. Members are urged to regard the interests of the family as paramount but, importantly, Freemasonry also teaches and practises concern for people, care for the less fortunate and help for those in need

The essential qualification for admission into and continuing membership is a belief in a Supreme Being. Membership is open to men of any race or religion who can fulfil this essential qualification and who are of good repute.
